The (real) Cause of Sodom's Demise - Part 2
Written by Albert Cerussi

Did God destroy Sodom because of flagrant homosexuality?  This seems to be a common thought today amongst many followers of Yeshua.  The fact that homosexual marriage is a prominent and growing issue in many states only strengthens the perception that God judged Sodom for this sexual immorality.  While it is clear from Scripture that homosexuality is not condoned by God, was homosexuality the “reason” God proclaimed that Sodom was wicked?  The answer, at least the answer the Bible gives us, may surprise you.

In Part I we looked at most of the references in Scripture to Sodom, but left out 2 key references.  It is to these verses in Isaiah and Ezekiel we now turn.

The (real) Cause of Sodom's Demise - Part 1

Every sermon I have ever heard about Sodom and Gomorrah has confidently asserted that homosexuality was the cause of their demise.  I have heard sermons chastise cities like San Francisco and other sexually promiscuous cities by referring to them as modern “Sodom and Gomorrahs.”  There is no shortage of laments about how “the gays” are taking over the country .  And I’m sure the recent passage of gay marriage in NY is going to add lots of fuel to many new Sodom sermons.

Let me be clear: Scripture in no way condones homosexual practice.  Engaging in Homosexuality is no different than engaging in adultery or pre-martial sex for that matter: all of these are violations against the covenant of marriage.  But the Scriptural legality of homosexuality is not the issue in this post: the question is why did God destroy Sodom?  It may not be for the reason you think.

Another Look at Prophetic Interpretation
Written by Albert Cerussi

Our recent study of Acts 2:14-36 has provided us with a wonderful teachable moment for those who are interested in Bible prophecy. But it may not be the lesson you think it is. Because there are so many who try to fit "square" current events into "round" prophetic Scriptures, it seemed a good idea to address this using a recent example from our Shabbat service.

Prophecy is not always so easy to interpret
Written by Albert Cerussi
Saturday, 06 February 2010 09:55

The issue I want to discuss today is beware of "simple" interpretations of Biblical prophecy, especially when trying to discuss events still future.

We all have our favorite authors and teachers, but I'm going to cite a renowned expert in Biblical prophecy: Levi (a.k.a. Matthew). You know, the guy who wrote the Gospel we call "Matthew" (yeah, that guy). I would like to share with you a few examples as to how Matthew looked at prophecy, and you can judge for yourself how easy or hard it is to predict what a particular prophecy meant.
