Don't judge the whole by the (small) parts

Some Christians are very skeptical of Messianic Believers because to them we have turned against Yeshua (Jesus) and tried to live “under the Law.”  While this view is incorrect on a number of levels, there are some bad theologies and nutty people in the Messianic movement.  I have met some Christians who have come across a nutty “Messianic” Believer and concluded that the entire movement is tainted.  Or some found a crazy “Messianic” website or blog that teaches contrary to the B’rit Chadashah (New Testament) and then decided Messianic Believers are heretics.

But it just is not a good idea to judge the entire population of Messianic Believers by a theologically sloppy website or by a nutty and deluded person.  The ‘inverse’ of Proverbs 18:17 comes to mind here …

Karaite Messianic Judaism?

One open question in the Messianic community is the significance of Rabbinic authority. While Messianic believers generally recognize the God-breathed nature of the Scriptures (i.e., the Written Torah), the importance of the so-called Oral Torah is not universally accepted. But should the Oral Torah be placed on par with the Written Torah?

Is the Torah Eternal?

Definitions and context matter, and today's question is a perfect example of both.

One concept that gets floated around a lot in Messianic circles is this: The Torah is eternal.  But what do we mean by "Torah" and what do we mean by "eternal?"  In our understanding at Ben David, we view "Torah" as the full written counsel of God that includes all 66 books of the Bible from Genesis through Revelation

What's in a name?

Sometimes names and terms are thrown around so much they lose their meaning altogether.

Take the term “Messianic Jewish Congregation” for example. The two adjectives “Messianic” and “Jewish” that describe the noun Congregation are very often at the center of controversy.
