How are believers in Messiah supposed to live?
Social/economic classes strongly dictate how we behave. Gender roles require specific behavioral trends. Political alliances force us into specific types of behavior. Racial and ethnic roots also strongly influence our behavior. And yet the Gospel, which transcends all of these aforementioned areas (Galatians 3:28), has something very different to say about how we should live.

In week 3 of our Coherence Ministry Training Class, we discussed mankind as he/she is described in the Bible. In the first part, we talked about how God made us in his image, how He made both male and female, and how God carved out (adopted) a people for Himself (a.k.a, the Jewish People).
In the second half we talked about things nobody likes to think about: sin, death and judgment. Most people really struggle with that last topic: judgment. I have been asked before why such controversial topics are covered in this course. Wouldn't it be better, it is argued, to focus on the lovingkindness (chessed) of God rather than his wrath?

Why do we make such a big stink about particulars regarding Yeshua at Ben David Messianic Jewish Congregation? Why do we insist that leaders in the congregation accept that Yeshua was fully God and fully man?
Quite honestly, the Bible fails to make sense if we do not.

Working with people always presents challenges. Just look at Congress today – you have a Senate that feels Government is the solution to our woes (i.e., the “Left”) whereas you have a House of Representatives that feels the Private Sector is the salvation of the nation (i.e., “the Right”). While they are all Americans, no resolution is coming any time soon because these groups disagree on the fundamentals and each is convinced the other is nuts.
Ministry is often that way too: philosophies differ, theologies differ, visions differ, cultures differ – and tempers flare and things don’t get done. How can a group of people, even if they are all believers in Messiah, come together to reach goal if the cant agree on the goal itself or the means to achieve that goal? They can’t – just look at what Paul had to endure in Galatia - and it generates disharmony in the (local) body as a result.

In our final week of our Coherence Ministry Training Course we covered three main topics: discipleship, spiritual gifts, and how to find your ministry role. In some ways, this topic was the crescendo of all the classes – how to plug you in and get you to fulfill your ministry calling (2 Timothy 4:5).
We discussed discipleship (i.e., follower, learner) because the entire point of the so-called great commission is to make disciples of Yeshua (Matthew 28:19-20). You cannot help someone be more like Yeshua if you are not. We discussed spiritual gifts because G-d has given us gifts (which are really ministries – see Kenneth Berding’s excellent work) to strengthen the Body of Messiah (Ephesians 4:12). We discussed the ministry landscape at Ben David to help you see what is the scope of our activity and give you a guide as to where G-d wants you to serve. May this be an encouragement for you to partner, to covenant with us so that the Gospel of Yeshua will go forth!
